2 CRITICALLY INJURED IN WRECK — Two patients were flown to a Fort Worth hospital in critical condition after a head-on collision on Farm Road 920 near Private Road 3512 Tuesday. The wreck occurred just before 11 a.m., approximately four miles south of Bridgeport. Two vehicles were involved in the collision, a Ford Excursion and a Hyundai SUV. After being extricated by first responders, the patients were flown to Texas Health Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. AirEvac Lifeteam-68 and PHI Air Medical responded to the accident, said Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger. FM 920 was closed for several hours as crews cleared the scene and investigated the accident. The road was reopened at 1:30 p.m. Wise County EMS, Wise County ESD No. 2, Bridgeport Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Wise County Fire Marshal’s Office, Wise County Pct. 4 and Texas Department of Transportation were among the personnel that responded to the scene.
MAN FOUND GUILTY IN CHILD DEATH CASE — A Wise County jury Tuesday found an Aurora man guilty of injury to a child in connection with his young daughter’s death in 2023. The jury found Stephen Alan King, 29, caused the death of his 2-year-old daughter, Scarlett, by failing to provide her with adequate food and water. The child was found deceased in her crib April 26, 2023, by her father. An autopsy showed the child died from complications of neglect from malnutrition and dehydration along with an upper respiratory infection. The punishment phase of the trial continues this morning in 271st District Court in Decatur.
BOYS BASKETBALL RESULTS — Javen Colbert scorched the net for 45 points to lift Decatur (19-7, 3-3) to .500 in District 7-4A play with an 87-54 win over Lake Worth Tuesday. Bridgeport (13-12, 1-5) was tripped up by Castleberry, 45-40. Boyd (8-19) improved to 3-2 in the 10-3A standings following a 58-52 win over Callisburg. Myles Richardson finished with 19 points. Despite 22 points from Cooper Jones, Paradise (18-6, 4-1) suffered its first league loss to Whitesboro, 65-56. In 13-2A, Alvord (13-12, 4-3) knocked off TIoga 62-34 behind Kellen McDaniel’s 30-point effort. Jordan Weiland finished with 29 points, but Chico (11-14) fell to 0-6 with a 62-48 home loss to Lindsay. Slidell (19-7, 6-0) earned its sixth district victory by outpacing Muenster, 58-36. VCA (14-5, 3-0) remains unbeaten in TAPPS 2A after a 53-33 road win against Muenster Sacred Heart.
GIRLS BASKETBALL RESULTS — Decatur (24-2) improved to 8-0 in District 7-4A with a 96-14 win over Lake Worth Tuesday behind 19 points from Bralyn Peck. Anna Green scored 19 points to lead Bridgeport (24-5, 7-1) to its seventh league win in a 93-13 victory over Castleberry. In 10-3A, Mia Biondolillo’s 12 points helped lift Boyd (14-9, 4-3) to third place with a 42-30 win over Callisburg. Paradise (18-9, 6-1) knocked off Whitesboro 55-23 thanks to 15 points from Gazey Yates. Alvord (10-14) fell to 0-8 in 13-2A after a 53-32 loss to Tioga. Cambree Watts led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points. Carley Salazar netted 15 points, but Chico (13-11, 2-6) suffered a 54-31 loss to Lindsay. Slidell (18-8, 3-3) dropped to .500 in league play after a 49-46 road loss against Muenster. Kearsie Kolar was the Lady Hounds’ top scorer with 19 points. Landrie Vaden finished with 17 points, as VCA (12-5) climbed to 3-0 in TAPPS 2A with a 50-32 win over Sacred Heart.
BOYS SOCCER RESULTS — Bridgeport (3-1) picked up its third win of the season by routing Fort Worth Polytechnic, 5-1. David Duran, Xxavier Garza, Oscar Lopez, Sergio Reyes and Jared Contreras finished with one goal each. Decatur (1-0-2) finished in a tie at 1 against Weatherford. The Eagles’ lone goal was scored by Adrian Sanchez.
GIRLS SOCCER RESULTS — Decatur (2-4) suffered its fourth loss of the season in a 5-0 defeat against Weatherford Tuesday.
BOYD ISD REVISES FUNDRAISER RULES — Boyd School Board Monday unanimously approved revising its district-wide fundraiser handbook to enact new rules for third-party vendors. According to the handbook’s new language, all third-party vendors must submit a formal application to the district for approval to operate at district events. Vendors must also comply with district guidelines and must be able to produce permits and certifications. Vendors are now required to coordinate with Boyd ISD event organizers to ensure proper placement and avoid conflicts with other vendors or district activities, and will only be able to operate during designated times in order to not interfere with core activities of the event.
