NEW BOUNDARIES - The Decatur School Board last night approved new elementary attendance boundaries to take effect with the opening of the district's third elementary next fall. Generally, areas on the west side of the district are zoned into Rann Elementary, areas on the east side of the district are zoned into Carson Elementary and southern areas of the district including much of the downtown area of Decatur are zoned into Young Elementary. HOUSE FIRE - Five fire departments responded to a house fire in the 1400 block of Stevens Street in Bridgeport around 1:15 Wednesday afternoon. When the Bridgeport firefighters arrived, they found a room fully involved with fire coming out of the windows. "They were able to knock the fire down quickly and did a good job controlling the damage," said Fire Marshal Marc Dodd. The homeowner, Rick Brown, was washing dishes when he discovered the fire. He exited the home unharmed, and Red Cross was called to the scene to assist with basic needs. Dodd said the fire was started by a space heater.

BREAKING NEWS - HOUSE FIRE - Five fire departments responded to a house fire in the 1400 block of Stevens Street in Bridgeport around 1:15 Wednesday afternoon. The homeowner, Rick Brown, was home at the time but was able to exit the home unharmed. Red Cross was called to the scene to assist with basic needs. Wise County Fire Marshal Marc Dodd is investigating the cause of the fire.

HART LEAVING CHICO - The Chico School Board unanimously approved a resignation agreement with athletic director and football coach Pete Hart Monday night. After a brief executive session and comments from eight members of the public, including four students, the board approved the agreement to cut ties with Hart effective Monday. The school district will pay Hart $75,000.

FIRE DEPARTMENT CHANGES - Chief Robert Waters and Asst. Chief Jeff Duncan of Boyd's Volunteer Fire Department resigned Sunday night. Remaining department members appointed Vince Estel to serve as interim chief until the department holds officer elections in January. Estel is also a member of the Boyd police department.

POSSIBLE COACHING CHANGE - After eight seasons, Athletic Director Pete Hart and Chico ISD could be parting ways. Chico ISD Superintendent Mike Jones said yesterday that the school board would consider a resignation agreement with the athletic director at its regular meeting Monday at 6:30 in the elementary cafetorium. Hart, who coached the football team in addition to his athletic director duties, did not comment on his future with the district. In Hart's eight seasons at Chico, the Dragons are 12-68.

VETERANS DAY - The Wise County Veterans Group presents its annual Veterans Day Program in the Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m. today, at Trinity and Ash streets in Decatur. The Chico band will play and World War II vets will be honored. IN RHOME, the Rhome Veteran's Park ribbon cutting ceremony is 10 a.m. at 100 Virginia Lane. CLOSINGS - All Wise County offices will be closed today.

LIFE OF SERVICE - W.B. Woodruff Jr. was honored by the city of Decatur Monday for his more than 50 years of service, with the proclaiming of Nov. 10 as W.B. Woodruff Jr. Day. Woodruff recently stepped down from the cemetery board after 34 years, closing more than five decades of service which included stints on the city council, planning and zoning commission and as mayor.

RUNNING TO STATE - The Decatur and Alvord girls advanced to the state cross country meet with their performances in regional meets Saturday. Decatur girls were second, and individually Lady Eagle Hanna Galloway won the 3A region meet. Alvord girls were third in 2A, paced by Jordan Ward in sixth place. Boyd's Katie Mark will advance to state after placing second. Allie Staub of Slidell advanced in Class A, placing third. Decatur boys missed out on a trip to state, placing sixth. Paradise's Gavin Von Hueval was 11th in 2A boys.

BRIDGEPORT RESIGNATIONS - Bridgeport City Administrator Van James turned in a letter of resignation Tuesday. James will be returning to Iraq with International City/County Management Association to work as a municipal consultant. James served in Iraq from December 2007 through December 2008. Bridgeport Main Street Manager Angie Tyson also turned in her resignation on Tuesday after accepting another job.

PLAYOFF SET - The Boyd Yellowjackets will meet the Pilot Point Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Springtown's Porcupine Stadium in a Class 2A Region II Division I bi-district football playoff. The game will be a rematch of last year's first-round game, which Pilot Point rallied to win 32-28.

ELECTION RESULTS - Decatur ISD voters soundly rejected the district's $8 million bond issue yesterday by a vote of 883-544. The bond would have provided upgrades district-wide as well as improvements to Eagle Stadium. Bridgeport ISD voters passed one of two propositions. Proposition 1, a $15 million package for new classrooms at two campuses, a new band hall and gym at the high school and other upgrades, passed by a vote of 649 to 601. Bridgeport's Proposition 2, a $7 million package that would have been used for technology, failed by a vote of 689 to 562.

BREAKING NEWS - HOUSE FIRE - Alvord and Decatur fire departments were dispatched to a house fire in the 3900 block of Old Decatur Road just before 3 p.m. Monday. Firefighters quickly put out a fire that started in the garage. The garage suffered smoke and water damage.
