Established in 1880, the Wise County Messenger
is one of Wise County’s oldest business institutions
and its largest newspaper. The Messenger, which operated in
different locations in the county early in its existence,
has been published in Decatur since 1885. Roy and Jeannine
Eaton purchased the publication in 1973 and quickly established
it as one of the best weekly newspapers in Texas.
The Messenger office, located at 115 South Trinity in Decatur
was expanded to almost 10,000 square feet in 1995. Messenger
Office Supply, an office supply company featuring products
ranging from paper clips to furniture and complete office
environment is also housed in the building.
The Wise County Messenger is published twice a week on Thursday
and Sunday. Paid circulation for the paper averages approx.
6,650 with a Total Market Circulation (TMC) section of an
additional 23,450 bringing the total available paid and free-mailed
circulation on Thursdays to more than 29,997.
The Wise County Messenger Update is a free distribution news
sheet published Monday through Friday with a circulation of
5,000 countywide containing the latest capsulized news of
Wise County. Update is also posted daily on the Wise County
Messenger webpage at www.wcmessenger.com.
